Ensuring Shared Parenting When Parents Are Separated or Divorced

22 million parents can’t see their children as a result of parental separation or divorce.

OUR MISSION

To improve the lives of children & strengthen society by protecting every child's right to the love & care of both parents after separation or divorce. We achieve this mission through three core program areas:

Shared parenting in your state is possible. NPO is leading the way.

In 2017 and 2018, the Kentucky NPO Chapter led by NPO Vice-Chair Matt Hale, succeeded in getting passed, almost unanimously, the country's first explicit equal shared parenting presumption. These laws are overwhelmingly popular and have resulted in fewer contested divorces, fewer cases of domestic violence, and better lives for Kentucky's children. Since NPO's groundbreaking work in Kentucky, NPO has helped get strong equal shared parenting laws enacted in other states: Arkansas (2021), West Virginia (2022), Florida (2023), and Missouri (2023). It's possible in your state, too. Join NPO to help ensure that children aren't deprived of a full relationship with a fit and loving parent just because the parents are living apart.
